Mexican mayor killed during Day of the Dead celebrations

BAD NEWS FROM MEXICO: The mayor of the Uruapan municipality, Carlos Alberto Manzo Rodríguez, was gunned down Saturday night in the town’s historic center. He was rushed to a hospital, where he later died, according to state prosecutor Carlos Torres Piña. A city council member and a bodyguard were also injured in the attack. The attacker was killed at the scene, Federal Security Secretary Omar García Harfuch told journalists Sunday. The attack on the mayor was carried out by an unidentified man who shot him seven times, García Harfuch said. The weapon was linked to two armed clashes between rival criminal groups operating in the region, he added.

LAMENTABLE NOTICIA EN MEXICO: El alcalde del municipio de Uruapan, Carlos Alberto Manzo Rodríguez, fue asesinado a tiros la noche del sábado en el centro histórico de la ciudad. Fue trasladado de urgencia a un hospital, donde posteriormente falleció, según informó el fiscal estatal Carlos Torres Piña. Un concejal y un guardaespaldas también resultaron heridos en el ataque. El agresor murió en el lugar de los hechos, declaró el secretario de Seguridad Federal, Omar García Harfuch, a la prensa el domingo. El ataque contra el alcalde fue perpetrado por un hombre no identificado que le disparó siete veces, indicó García Harfuch. El arma utilizada está vinculada a dos enfrentamientos armados entre grupos criminales rivales que operan en la región, añadió.
